Rubbish on the Radio: to entertain your ears this week

Bananas: they're not just for the fruit bowl you know...

Happy days!

It’s mid-week – not that I’m wishing the week away – and it’s time for my regular trip to the Apple studios in Taunton to broadcast Slow Down and Green Up to a willing audience.

Today, between 10am and 1pm, I’ll be talking natural face masks with Jude from the local branch of Lush and I’ll be giving you my top tips for making your own versions using the contents of your kitchen cupboards and fridge!

If you have any burning questions to put to her, give me a call in the studio on 01823 342591 and I’ll get you and answer on air.

I’ve also got the lovely Jon Kelly from the Odeon Cinema coming in too.  He pops in every Wednesday to talk about the hot and happening movies of the week, the absolute must see’s and we discuss the new film releases too.  As usual, I’ll be giving away 3 pairs of tickets to go to your local Odeon Cinema to see whatever takes your fancy.

All you have to do, to be in with a chance of winning a pair, is visit the Apple website and click the ‘Listen Now’ tab at the top of the page, then call me at the studio with your answer to the easy question I’ll be setting earlier in the show.

Jon will also give us his critical thoughts on:

Frost/Nixon – critically acclaimed director Ron Howard (The Da Vinci Code, Apollo 13) directs this adaptation of the successful stage show based on the infamous TV interview between David Frost and ex-president Nixon. Garnering 6 Bafta nominations this is a riveting look at the interview that forced Nixon to face up to his past and be accountable to the world for his abuse of power.  Watch the trailer of Frost/Nixon.

Milk – Sean Penn stars in this film based on the true story of America’s first openly gay elected official. Facing discrimination and threats of violence for his increasingly successful public campaigns, this is a fascinating look at a true American trailblazer. This has been nominated for 4 Baftas including Best Actor for Sean Penn’s incredible performance.  Watch the trailer of Milk.

Valkyrie – another film based on real events, this tells the true story of a group of high ranking German soldiers who try to assassinate Hitler as they feel he is leading their country to certain ruin towards the end of the Second World War. Tom Cruise leads an all star cast, including top British talents such as Kenneth Brannagh, Terrance Stamp, Bill Nighy and Tom Wilkinson. Directed by Bryan Singer (X Men, The Usual Suspects, Superman returns).  Watch the trailer of Valkyrie.

Underworld 3 – a complete change from everything else out this week, this is a prequel to the hit horror franchise, which conveniently accounts for why the normal leading lady, Kate Beckinsale, is not in this! It does however have some quality actors in it, including Michael Sheen (hot from Frost/Nixon) and Bill Nighy. This tells the origin story of how the Lycans (werewolves to you and I) and Vampires started their war against each other.  Watch the trailer of Underworld 3.

Beat the credit crunch listeners; don’t spend a fortune going out, tune into my radio show and win yourself a great night out instead!

Actually, if you think that sounds like a great line up, you ain’t heard nothin’ yet – so they say in radio circles – the rest of the show is pretty good too, brilliant music, lots of eco-news, rubbish reduction tips, reviews and chat too and it’s free to listen to!

Rubbishly yours,

TS x
